Principal's Message

Nimbin Central School provides quality education for students from the village of Nimbin and the surrounding rural areas. The school community is culturally and socio economically diverse. It is truly a unique community.

Nimbin Central School’s core beliefs and values have a threefold focus: fostering a love of learning; academic success through diversity; and a commitment to promoting active citizenship in a safe, sustainable and caring environment. All of our teachers are both fully qualified and fully motivated. Students at Nimbin Central School are supported in all aspects of their learning by these experienced and dedicated teachers. There is a considerable focus on, and commitment to sustained, organised teacher learning. Many of our teachers have had a long association with the school and are fully cognisant of the contextual factors impacting on our students’ learning. Student learning and wellbeing is a focus for all the staff at Nimbin Central School.

The Primary and Secondary departments operate independently of each other in terms of the daily timetable, however we join together regularly for special occasions and whole school events.

The school plays an important role in the community. Each semester the community celebrate learning through “The Big Bahzooley” performances where students are able to showcase their considerable talent to a broad audience. The school hosts the community “Weave and Mend” festival which attracts people from all over the state. This year we held a Youth Interagency Fair to allow all our students, as well as local youth, access to current, relevant information.

This year we also held the first of our ‘big’ Stage 3 and 4 excursions, we took all of Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 to Canberra and the Snow for a fun-filled educational and social experience. We plan to continue these excursions on a four year rotation. We are yet to decide where the next three excursions will go but some of our options are Sydney and the Western Plains, Bathurst and the Gold Fields, North Stradbroke Island, and then back to Canberra and the Snow in 2013. This ensures that each child in Stage 3 and 4 has the opportunity to visit each of these educationally valuable destinations over the four years.

Nimbin Central School is currently in a period of growth and there is resounding optimism reverberating through the community around where the school is heading and what our students can achieve. It is truly a gift to be a part of this vibrant learning community.
